Roger Ballen will be in town this week presenting his first major Sydney exhibition Theatre of the Mind at the SCA in Rozelle. Consisting of 75 contemporary works spanning two decades, Theatre of the Mind cuts a huge slice of Ballen’s archive and serves it alongside video offerings Outland, Asylum of the Birds, I Fink U Freeky (2012 – Die Antwoord) as well as an onsite installation at the former Rozelle Psychiatric hospital, set in a labyrinth of underground cells. You’d be hard pressed to find a more apt housing, or a realer deal Ballen experience, don’t miss it!
Roger Ballen also hosts a public talk at the SCA on the 9th March, ahead of the official exhibition opening on Tuesday 15th March. Tickets won’t cost you a dime, you can book your butt a seat right here. Roger Ballen’s Theatre of the Mind is showing at SCA Galleries from 16 March to 30 April 2016. A 96-page book will accompany the exhibition featuring Ballen’s photography and an essay by SCA Professor Colin Rhodes.
