Friday Fry Up: Sarah Pannell

06.11.15

This Fridays Fry Up throws a spotlight on our good friend Sarah Pannell’s new book and exhibition ‘The Territories’ showing as part of this years IPF Melbourne program. The Territories is a pull apart poster/photobook characterizing the quiet streets and bays of the New Territories, a sleepier side of the greater Hong Kong region and one in hard contrast to the manic streets of Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. Sarah’s images pay respect to the glossy stock photos of souvenir calendars, the picture-perfect landscapes of Victoria Harbour and the seaside tourist towns of Stanley and Repulse Bay. “The Territories, on the other hand, serves as a capsule view of the Chinese-held territory and offers an alternative view of Hong Kong and the distinct elements that separate it from mainland China.” The Territories comes as a pull apart poster book with perforated pages in an Edition of 100, it’s designed by good guy Jason Hamilton and launches alongside an exhibition and video piece of the same name. (Video also by Jason Hamilton). We’ll be there, will you?

Sarah Pannell – The Territories, Mon 9 Nov, 7-9pm, Magic Johnston, 27-29 Johnston St, Collingwood 3066.
