Have you recently been living by any life philosophy? Chase travel opportunities like a rabid dog. If there is a trip going I try get on it at all costs. What is it that interests you about photography? How conscious it has made me of the details in life. It really helps me enjoy certain moments that I feel people who don’t take photographs just let slip on by, blissfully unaware of the happenings. What Was The Last Crime You Witnessed? The use of banned substances. What is the most complicated meal you can think of? A meal you have to share with someone who has little to no conversation skills. Ultimate Camera? Maybe a phase one but I’m not that into using digital cameras at this point in my life. To be honest I’m more worried about the ultimate scanner right now. Most Used Camera? Contax G2 the workhorse. Name a design flaw in the human body. Feet and our brains both can be equally as ugly and repulsive. Describe the most important photo you’ve seen. The shot that Tim Hetherington took of himself before he died. I don’t know why but it’s just stuck with me. It’s like he had an insight into his own existence. What is the worst thing about city life? The noise that is constantly drowning out the sound of nature.
What part of the planet would you like to explore? Mongolia has a strange hold on me at the moment. I also would love to check out Norway because that’s where my family descends. Name one smell that triggers an abstract memory. Coconut scented sun block. Describe your generation. Somewhat disconnected, brash and to a certain extent pretty careless but at the same time there are a lot of great young innovators, in all fields that are making up for the vast majority that are more concerned with selfies than going to take a hike on the mountain or making any attempt at changing the world. What relationship advice do you have for us? Ha-ha I don’t think anyone has mastered relationships. Patience is always good but that applies to all parts of life. Describe A Cheap Thrill. We like talking but don’t listen. I feel the Internet gives us a false sense that we know more than we actually do. Life experience can often be far more enriching than an article we read on the internet that has been prescribed to us.
Pick an historic moment from the last hundred years to bring a camera to. I would have loved to have taken a portrait of my parents on the first night they met and captured how oblivious they were to what lay ahead. For me that moment was pretty historic. Which talent would you most like to have? A linguist. Being able to speak many languages is something that really appeals to me and allows for a greater understanding of humans in general. Name a quality about the opposite sex that you find unattractive. Someone who likes to gossip and dabbles in menial small talk. What will baffle future generations about our day and age? How caught up we were in using fossil fuels that destroy our planet and how we allow the media to pull the wool over our eyes. Or maybe that will all get worse. Who knows? What is your plan for the next 24 hours? Trying to find a wave, a place to take images and maybe have a few quiet beers with my mates. Enjoying the simple things.
