Q&A: Lloyd Stubber

Which words or phrases do you most overuse? My housemate just told me I call people “lord” too much. That’s James Whineray’s fault though. Do you believe in world peace? No. Does the modern world impress you? In terms of modern medicine and technology, yes. In the event of a disaster, where would you go? Back to Perth, where my family lives. If you had to align yourself with a leader in history, who would it be? Galileo Galilei. Is disappointment healthy? Yes. Is it healthy to meet your heroes? I’d like to say yes, but I’ve met one of mine and they aren’t a hero to me anymore. When are you most aware you are ageing? Seeing my niece once a year. Ultimate camera? An invisible Voigtlaender Bessa III. Most used camera? Nikon FM.

What is the best way to educate yourself? Trial and error. Which living person do you most admire? My family. On what occasion do you lie? I tend to embellish facts of stories here and there. Do you google too much? Definitely. Are you satisfied with your level of physical strength? My self portrait will speak for me on that one. What do you think is the most plausible of the supernatural? Lifeforms from other planets/galaxies. What is your nationality? Australian. What nationality would you like to be alternatively? Scottish. Can’t beat their Highlands. What is it that interests you about photography? Being able to tell stories through images. Are you aware of any conspiracies? Cheeseybite is just Vegemite diluted and sold at the same price.

Have you recently been living by any life philosophy? I recently traveled with a friend who said “don’t worry about it if you can’t change it” to me a fair bit which I’ve really taken on board. What moment have you most wished you’d had a camera when you hadn’t? Every moment. Make a prediction for the future. Life will be like an Asimov novel. What essential life skills are schools neglecting to teach our children? I haven’t been to school in a while but it wouldn’t hurt teaching kids to be environmentally conscious and emphasize more sustainable practices. Name one smell that triggers an abstract memory. Parmesan always reminds me of my Grandpa. He never let anyone at the table use it because he thought it smelled like feet. You have the superpower to control a single emotion in all people. Which emotion? Empathy. Last words before death? Feed my fish.
