Q&A: Andrew Cohen

Which living person do you most admire? I admire different people for different reasons. Nobody should be #1. Why burden them? What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? I do not hold anyone up to unreal expectations. Living with regard for others is important to me. No self–hatred. What is the trait you most deplore in others? Unwillingness to understand that their life is not the model for my life or your life.. What is your greatest extravagance? Extravagance is in the past for me. What do you consider the most overrated virtue? I have no problem with any virtues.

Which talent would you most like to have? As long as I can appreciate the talents of others, I am happy with the one I have. What is your current state of mind? It is an election year…. FEAR! Other than that, as long as I am shooting I am good. What do you consider your greatest achievement? The level of kindness I see in my sons. If you could choose what to come back as, what would it be? A Nikon FM. Most used camera? To me they all speak different languages and need to be heard. I work with cameras that I have owned for thirty-five years as well as cameras that I come across from time to time. I have not shot 8×10 for some time, but still work with 4×5, medium format and 35mm.

What is the quality you most like in a woman? Sincerity and the ability to state what they would like for dinner. What do you most value in your friends? Their friendship. I have been very lucky to have friends that are more like family to me. Who are your favorite writers? I love reading the work of Eamonn Montgomery. How would you like to die? After my parents, before my children.
